Pool Tile and Coping Installation

Aqua Creations installs pool tile and coping as a standalone upgrade or as part of a full resurfacing, with coping in precast concrete, brick, or natural stone and waterline tile in porcelain, natural stone, or glass. When the job includes resurfacing, the edge, the tile band, and the AQUA-GLASS™ finish are planned as one project with one company.

What coping and waterline tile actually do

Coping and tile are the first things anyone sees at the edge of a pool, and they do real work. Tile and coping often show their age around the same time as the surface, which is why many owners replace all three in one project alongside pool resurfacing.

Coping: the cap on the wall

Coping caps the top edge of the pool wall. It finishes the line between deck and water, gives swimmers a solid edge to hold, and covers the top of the shell. When coping cracks, loosens, or separates from the bond beam below it, water can work in behind it.

Tile: the band at the waterline

Waterline tile is the band set just under the coping, where the water surface meets the wall. That line collects scale, sunscreen, and body oils, and a tile band is easier to wipe clean there than plaster or fiberglass.

Materials we install

Choose your coping, then your tile

These are the coping and tile options we offer. Tap through each one to see how it looks and where it fits best.

Coping material

Precast concrete coping

Prefabricated concrete pieces arrive with a finished edge, so the line around the pool stays clean and consistent. It suits most pool shapes and most home styles, and it is the simplest choice when you want the coping to stay quiet and let the water and finish lead.

Uniform piecesClean, even line

Brick coping

Brick gives the pool a traditional, warm edge that pairs well with brick patios, walls, and older homes. It is set piece by piece in mortar, so the layout can follow a curve as easily as a straight run.

Natural stone coping

Quarried stone varies from piece to piece in color and texture, so no two edges look exactly alike. It belongs beside stone walls, rock features, and yards planted to look natural rather than formal.

Porcelain tile

Porcelain is dense and comes in the widest range of colors, sizes, and patterns. It makes a practical waterline band that wipes down easily and can be matched to almost any coping and finish color.

Natural stone tile

Stone tile carries the same character as stone coping, and the two are often chosen together. Its surface and color shift from piece to piece, which gives the waterline an organic look.

Glass tile

Glass tile catches light at the waterline and gives the most polished look of the three. It is the pick for owners who want the tile band itself to stand out against the finish.

Coping and tile look different next to your own deck, house, and finish color than they do in a catalog, so we talk through options at the free estimate.

Coping

Coping is due when pieces are cracked, loose, or rock underfoot, when the mortar joints have opened up, or when the joint between the coping and the deck has failed. Loose coping is a trip hazard and a path for water into the wall.

Waterline tile

Tile is due when pieces crack or pop off, when grout has washed out of the joints, or when scale has built up past the point of cleaning. If you are planning to resurface, decide now. Replacing tile and coping while the pool is drained avoids a second shutdown later.

On a combined project

How tile and coping fit into a resurfacing job

Edge work comes before the finish, so the new surface can be laminated up to a tile line that will not move again.

Walk the edge

At the free estimate we look over the coping and the tile band for pieces that are loose, cracked, or failing.

Remove what is failing

Old coping and tile come off where they need to, and the bond beam underneath is cleaned up to take the new pieces.

Set coping and tile

New coping and the waterline tile band are set in the materials you chose, with joints grouted and cleaned.

Finish to the new line

The AQUA-GLASS™ finish is laminated up to the new tile, so edge, tile, and surface are completed in one project.

What decides the price

Pool tile and coping is priced by the job after a site visit, never from a flat rate. These are the things that move the number.

Length of the pool edgeCoping and tile materialHow much old work comes offCondition of the bond beamStandalone or with resurfacing

Have a spa attached? Its tile and coping can be done in the same visit, along with spa resurfacing. Commercial pools often pair a new edge with new rails and drain covers through our VGBA compliance and safety upgrades.

Questions

Pool tile and coping questions

I cant stress how easy the process was. The entire team at Aqua Creations was knowledgeable, prompt, and very fast all while turning out a fantastic product. They replaced the coping, water line tile and put down their aqua glass finish in 2 spas and our pool. I would highly recommend them for any pool or spa refinish.
