Pool Resurfacing in Montecito, CA, for Estate Pools and Hard Water
Aqua Creations handles pool resurfacing in Montecito from our Ventura shop, about 25 miles down US 101. Tap water here comes from the Montecito Water District, whose 2025 sources averaged 404 to 527 mg/L of hardness, and many pools are large custom builds, so the prep matters as much as the finish.

Average lows run from 46°F in December and January to 60°F in July and August.
Mild all year, with almost no summer rain
The closest NOAA normals station sits in Santa Barbara, about three miles west. Its averages show highs that move only about 11 degrees through the year, from 66°F in December to 78°F in August and September, and about 19 inches of rain, nearly all of it from November through March.
For a pool, that mild pattern means a long swim season and a surface that sees sun and sanitizer most of the year. It also means weather rarely holds up a project for long. A drained shell still sits open to rain and wind, though, and every finish has temperature and moisture limits while it cures, so the forecast matters when a start date is chosen.

Four signs a Montecito pool surface is wearing out
Hard fill water, year-round sun, and big leafy lots leave a predictable set of marks on a pool interior. These are the four to watch for.
A white line at the tile
Montecito Water District sources averaged 404 to 527 mg/L of hardness in 2025. As water evaporates and gets topped off, that calcium stays behind as a crust on the waterline tile and steps.
Rough plaster underfoot
Plaster is cement-based and slowly etches. Once it turns sandy, it snags swimsuits, scrapes feet, and gives scale and algae a place to grip.
Tea-colored stains
Leaves and seed pods from mature trees settle on the floor and release tannins. On porous plaster, those stains soak in and stay after the debris is gone.
Hollow or flaking patches
A hollow sound when you tap, or flaking near steps and returns, means the old surface has let go of the shell. That gets repaired before any new finish goes on.
If your pool has a plaster finish showing these signs, our page on plaster, gunite, and pebble pool resurfacing explains the options.
Montecito, Santa Barbara County, about 25 miles from our Ventura shop
From Coast Village Road up into the foothills
Our crews cover all of Montecito, from the Lower Village and Coast Village Road along US 101, up San Ysidro Road and Hot Springs Road to the Upper Village and East Valley Road, and on to the foothill lots above. Tell us about steps, slopes, or a narrow side yard when you call.
Next door, we also work in Summerland to the east and Santa Barbara to the west, plus Carpinteria a few miles farther down the freeway. See every town on our Santa Barbara County page.
How two finishes handle Montecito water and sun
No finish is right for every pool, but local conditions tilt the comparison. Here is how standard plaster and AQUA-GLASS™ fiberglass differ on the points that matter on this part of the coast. Our fiberglass pool resurfacing page explains how the gun-laminated finish goes on.
| What matters | Plaster | AQUA-GLASS™ fiberglass |
|---|---|---|
| Surface | Cement-based and porous. Starts smooth and grows rougher as it etches. | Non-porous and smooth to the touch. |
| Hard fill water | Calcium can lock into the pores and build into scale that is hard to remove. | Scale has less to grip and cleans off the surface more easily. |
| Leaf and tannin stains | Stains can soak into the surface. | Stains sit on top, where they are easier to clean. |
| Water chemistry | Fresh plaster needs a careful start-up and tends to push pH up as it cures. | Does not leach into the water the way curing plaster does. |
| Color | White and a range of tinted plasters. | Custom colors for private pools. |
| Shell repairs | Loose and hollow areas must be fixed first. | Loose and hollow areas must be fixed first. |
Refill water in Montecito comes from the district's mix of lake, groundwater, and imported supplies, all on the hard side, so getting calcium and pH in range after the fill matters more here than in a soft-water town.

A Ventura shop on this coast since 1991
Aqua Creations works out of 1547 Los Angeles Ave in Ventura, about 25 miles down US 101 from Montecito. Every AQUA-GLASS™ job is done by our own in-house crews, never subcontractors, and the company has stayed with fiberglass since Richard Dietz Sr. brought AQUA-GLASS™ to Southern California in 1991.
More than 7,000 projects later, the shop still runs on one idea: principle before profit. From 1996 through 2008, we were the only fiberglass resurfacing company to win Best Alternative Surfacing at the Western Pool & Spa Show.
On an estate pool, the coping and waterline tile often deserve a look at the same time as the interior. Our pool tile and coping page covers that work.
