Pool Resurfacing in Garden Grove, CA, for Older Pools on Hard Water
Aqua Creations brings pool resurfacing to Garden Grove backyards and community pools, replacing worn plaster with AQUA-GLASS™ fiberglass applied by our own crews. Much of this city’s housing dates from the 1950s, and its well water is very hard, so pool surfaces here take a beating.
City wells supply most of the water, and it is hard
The City of Garden Grove pumps most of its water from its own wells in the Orange County groundwater basin and blends it with surface water imported by the Metropolitan Water District. Its 2026 Water Quality Report, covering 2025, lists nine city wells.
The well water averaged 303 mg/L of total hardness, with readings from 187 to 346 mg/L. That works out to about 17.7 grains per gallon, which the city rounds to 18. The imported water was softer, at 236 mg/L or about 14 grains per gallon. Both sit well above the 180 mg/L line where the USGS calls water very hard.
For a pool, that means every fill and every top-off brings in a heavy load of calcium. Plaster absorbs some of it and roughens over time. A fiberglass interior has no pores for the minerals to work into, so what settles stays on the surface and comes off with routine care.
Paperwork and code questions, handled
“We received two outstanding referrals to Aqua Creations which helped in making our decision to work with them. The work was done professionally and neatly and the result was a beautiful new pool. Aqua Creations guided us through all of the city and code requirements. Thumbs up!”
City and code requirements differ from one place to the next, and we look at what applies to your pool at the estimate.
Garden Grove, Orange County, about 80 miles from our Ventura shop
Both sides of Beach Boulevard, and everywhere along the 22
The Garden Grove Freeway runs the length of the city, and most of the streets we work on sit a few minutes off one of its exits. We cover the neighborhoods off Harbor Boulevard and Brookhurst Street, the blocks around Garden Grove Boulevard and Chapman Avenue, and West Garden Grove on the far side of Beach Boulevard.
Next door, we also resurface pools in Santa Ana, Anaheim, and Huntington Beach. Our Orange County page lists the rest.
Questions we ask about a Garden Grove yard before work starts
Garden Grove is mostly flat, so hillsides are rarely the issue. Older tract lots, side yards, and shared communities are. These are the things we ask about at the estimate.
How wide is the side yard and gate?
On many older tract lots the only way to the backyard is a narrow side yard. We ask how wide the path and gate are so we know how equipment and hoses will reach the pool.
What sits between the street and the pool?
Block walls, planters, and patio covers are common on these lots. We ask what has to be worked around on the way back.
Where can the truck park?
We ask about the driveway and the street out front, since that decides where our truck sits and how far lines need to run.
Does a board or manager need to sign off?
If the pool belongs to a condo association, townhome community, or mobile home park, we ask who approves the work and what they need from us first.
Pool resurfacing in Garden Grove, and the work that goes with it
Most Garden Grove pools sit behind single-family homes, with condo and townhome pools in the mix. When a pool is empty for resurfacing, it is also the time to deal with the spa, tile, and coping.
Homeowner pools
Garden Grove is mostly single-family homes, and an older backyard pool here gets a fiberglass surface made for its hard fill water.

For Garden Grove boards, we give you a written proposal, with drain cover and health department requirements reviewed up front.
HOA resurfacing Attached spasSpa resurfacing
A spa runs hot, so hard water scales it even faster than the pool. We resurface it in the same project.
Spa resurfacing WaterlineTile and coping
Hard water leaves the tile line crusted and grout worn. With the pool empty, tile and coping can be replaced too.

Four things to check on a Garden Grove pool this weekend
With fill water near 18 grains per gallon and pools that have been around a long time, these are the problems most likely to show up. You can check each one yourself.
Scale you cannot scrub off
A rough white line along the tile that comes back after cleaning means calcium from the fill water has bonded to the surface.
Cloudy water that will not clear
Etched, porous plaster holds dirt and algae in its pits, and the water stays dull even when the chemistry tests fine.
Chips and flaking at the edges
Look along the steps and just under the tile. Older plaster tends to let go at edges first, leaving sharp spots.
An aging main drain cover
Drain covers on public pools have had to meet the federal Virginia Graeme Baker Act since December 2008, and covers carry a rated service life. When the pool is drained, it is the time to check them.
Another coat of plaster depends on its bond to the coat below; AQUA-GLASS™ is a new laminate bonded to the prepared shell.
