Eleven towns, from the South Coast to the Santa Maria Valley
Each card carries one fact that changes how a pool there gets planned, from who supplies the fill water to how hot the summer runs. Open your town for the full local page.

South Coast
Santa Barbara
City water mixes very hard lake water, about 420 mg/L in 2025, with soft desalinated water near 54 mg/L. What fills your pool depends on the blend reaching your street.

South Coast
Montecito
Montecito Water District lists Jameson Lake, local groundwater, Cachuma, State Water, and desalination among its supplies, so check its current numbers before a new finish is balanced.

South Coast
Summerland
Served by Montecito Water District, whose 2025 sources averaged 404 to 527 mg/L hardness, the hardest on the South Coast list.

Carpinteria
The first Santa Barbara County town you reach driving up US 101 from our Ventura shop, so it is the shortest trip on this page.

Goleta
Goleta Water District reported Lake Cachuma water at 360 mg/L hardness and its wells at 470 mg/L in 2025, both in the very hard range.

Santa Ynez Valley
Solvang
A valley town on Highway 246. Part of it takes water from the Santa Ynez River district on a limited basis, and summers run far warmer than on the coast.

Santa Ynez Valley
Santa Ynez
Water here comes from Improvement District No. 1, which blends Santa Ynez Uplands groundwater, river alluvium, Cachuma, and State Water supplies.

Los Olivos
Also on Improvement District No. 1. Nearby Cachuma Lake has a normal August high of 93°F, about 15 degrees above the Santa Barbara waterfront.

Santa Ynez Valley
Buellton
City water comes from four wells in the Buellton Uplands and the Santa Ynez River underflow, topped up with State Water, so it is a different supply from the rest of the valley.

Lompoc Valley
Lompoc
The city pumps from ten wells and softens the water at its plant. Hardness averaged 293 mg/L in 2025, about 17 grains per gallon.

Orcutt
The north end of the county beside Santa Maria. Airport normals show August highs near 74°F and January lows near 41°F, the coolest nights on our coastal list.

The Santa Ynez Mountains split the county into two pool climates
On the South Coast and in the Lompoc and Santa Maria valleys, ocean air keeps summer highs in the 70s. Over the mountains in the Santa Ynez Valley, the same August runs about 15 degrees hotter, and winter nights drop close to freezing.
That gap shows up in the pool. A hot valley pool loses more water to evaporation through the summer, and each top-off adds minerals that stay behind, so scale and a rough finish tend to show sooner. Coastal pools run cooler and sit in salty, damp air, which is harder on coping, rails, and deck hardware than on the water itself.

Pool resurfacing in Santa Barbara County, region by region
Our crews come up US 101 from Ventura. The South Coast towns sit along the freeway between the mountains and the ocean, the Santa Ynez Valley is over the pass on Highway 154 or out past Gaviota, and Lompoc and Orcutt are farther north. Pick a region to move the map.
Santa Barbara County from Carpinteria in the south to Orcutt in the north
Most of the county fills its pools with very hard water
On the USGS scale, water above 180 mg/L of hardness counts as very hard, and nearly every supply on this list clears that line. The one soft source is the City of Santa Barbara’s desalination plant, and its water is blended with lake water before it reaches most taps.
Hard fill water leaves calcium scale at the waterline and makes a porous plaster finish rough over time. A smooth fiberglass surface gives scale less to grip, but the water still has to be balanced from your own supplier’s numbers. Montecito Water District and the Santa Ynez River district publish their own reports, and we will look at yours with you.

One health agency covers every public pool in the county
Santa Barbara County Environmental Health Services runs the recreational health program for public swimming facilities, from Carpinteria to Orcutt. The county says the program exists to keep public pools operating safely and in sanitary condition, so a hotel, apartment, or HOA pool answers to the same office whichever town it sits in.
Before a public pool is resurfaced, the owner should confirm what Environmental Health Services needs to see before it reopens, and we go over that with you at the estimate. Public pools follow the health agency’s approved finish rules, so we do not offer custom colors on hotel, apartment, or HOA pools, and their drain covers have to meet the federal Virginia Graeme Baker Act.

Commercial pool resurfacing in Santa Barbara County
Commercial operators here worry about the same things: how long the pool is closed, what the health agency will ask for, and whether the finish holds up under daily use. Our commercial pool resurfacing work covers all three.
Guest pools
Hotel and inn pools on the South Coast, including the Hotel Milo pool in Santa Barbara, are part of the guest experience. A closed pool costs guests, so the length of the closure is part of every commercial estimate we give.
Board-ready answers
HOA boards and community managers need a scope they can defend. We walk the pool, explain how gun-laminated AQUA-GLASS™ differs from a rolled-on coating, and answer the board’s questions about the finish.
Hard use, hard water
Shared pools see heavy chemical loads, and county fill water runs very hard. A dense, smooth fiberglass surface stands up to both better than porous plaster.
The same crews and the same standard in every town
We do not hand Santa Barbara County jobs to local subcontractors. Pools here are resurfaced by the same in-house crews who work across our other four counties, sent out from the shop in Ventura.
I am really pleased with the pool. Everyone at AQUA has been responsive and very professional. Your technicians did a beautiful job and have provided excellent customer service. Thank you!!!
