Pool Resurfacing in Pacific Palisades for Bluff, Canyon, and Village Homes
Aqua Creations offers pool resurfacing in Pacific Palisades with AQUA-GLASS™ fiberglass, applied by in-house crews who drive down the coast from our Ventura shop. We work with owners who want a worn plaster pool smooth again, and with families getting a pool ready to use after the fire.
How the neighboring towns compare
We cover this whole side of Los Angeles. Here is how three nearby towns differ from the Palisades for pool work.
Brentwood
Just east along Sunset. The same LADWP Western Los Angeles water, with flatter lots south of Sunset and canyon homes to the north.
Pool resurfacing in BrentwoodBel Air
Across the 405, up in the hills. Nearly 9 in 10 homes there are single-unit houses, and long, winding drives make access the first question.
Pool resurfacing in Bel AirCulver City
Farther inland and flatter, on Golden State Water rather than LADWP.

Los Angeles County areasSalt air, morning marine layer, and a long sunny season
Pacific Palisades runs right down to Pacific Coast Highway. Homes in Castellammare and on the bluffs above the beach take sea air most days, and the marine layer often hangs over the coast into late morning. NOAA’s Santa Monica Pier station, the nearest on the coast, averages 69.7°F in August, so pool water here rarely sees inland heat spikes.
Salt air is harder on the hardware around a pool than on the interior: deck rails, anchors, light rings, and the grout at the waterline tile. On the interior, the bigger problem is porous plaster. It holds airborne grit, stains where leaves settle, and slowly etches as the water works on the cement. Our plaster pool resurfacing page covers what we do with those shells.
The January 2025 fire added one more condition. City guidance for pools in fire-affected areas warns that direct sunlight can damage the exposed plaster of a pool left empty. If your pool sat drained during cleanup, the surface is worth a close look before it is filled again.

What to look at on a Palisades pool
- Rails and anchorsMetal at the deck edge, where sea air shows up first.
- Waterline tile and groutLoose tile and open grout lines let water behind the surface.
- Stains and roughnessSpots where debris settles, and floors that feel like sandpaper.
- Pools left emptyPlaster that sat dry in the sun after the fire.
What we ask before a crew comes up your street
Lots here range from small yards in the Alphabet Streets to bluff and canyon properties with long stairs. These are the questions we ask first, so the plan fits the property.
How do we reach the pool?
Is there a side yard, and how wide is the gate? Do we have to carry equipment through the house or down a run of steps?
Is the lot on a slope or a bluff?
Hillside and bluff yards can mean stairs, retaining walls, and very little room to stage near the pool.
Is the home inside a gated community?
Parts of the Palisades Highlands sit behind gates. We ask who signs off on contractor access and whether the HOA wants paperwork first.
Where can a truck park?
Narrow streets and canyon roads leave little room. We ask about the driveway, street parking, and any posted limits.
Where will the pool water go?
Fire-area rules send pool water to the sewer clean-out, so tell us where yours is.
Is fire cleanup finished on the lot?
If debris removal is still in progress, draining may have to wait. We ask where your lot stands before we talk about dates.
Which rules apply to a Palisades pool
It comes down to who uses the pool. A backyard pool and a pool shared by residents or members follow different paths.
Pools at single-family homes
Los Angeles County’s public pool program does not cover pools at single-family homes or buildings with three units or fewer. For a backyard pool, the rules a resurface runs into are mostly about draining and refilling, set by the City of Los Angeles. If you are weighing a full resurface for your own pool, our residential pool resurfacing page is the place to start.
After the fire: draining guidance
- Request an approved start date from LA Sanitation before draining.
- Send pool water to the sewer clean-out, never the driveway, gutter, or storm drain.
- No draining reservations within 24 hours of forecast rain, or within 48 hours after rain ends.
- Refill as soon as the work allows, since sun can damage exposed plaster.
From LA Sanitation guidance shared by Council District 11. Rules for fire areas can change, so confirm the current version before draining.
Community poolApartment, condo, HOA, and club pools
These count as public pools in Los Angeles County. Before a renovation starts, plans go to the Department of Public Health’s Recreational Waters Program. The county calls for a white interior finish, suction outlet covers from its approved equipment list, an inspection before the final surface goes on, and written approval before the pool reopens. Public pools follow the health agency’s approved finish rules, so we do not offer custom colors on hotel, apartment, or HOA pools.
A resurface is often the moment to replace drain covers; see our VGBA compliance upgrades.

Convert a water hardness reading
Test strips, water reports, and softener dealers use different units. Type a number in mg/L or grains per gallon, or pick a supply, to see both units and where it lands on the standard hardness scale.
A fresh fill rarely stays at tap values. As water evaporates and you top off, minerals build up, so the number your pool tests at a year from now will be higher than what came out of the hose.
Scale: 0 to 60 mg/L soft, 61 to 120 moderately hard, 121 to 180 hard, over 180 very hard (USGS). One grain per gallon equals 17.1 mg/L. Supply values: LADWP Drinking Water Quality Report 2025.
Moderately hard.
