Pool Resurfacing in Arcadia, CA, Where the Fill Water Comes From Local Wells
Aqua Creations provides pool resurfacing in Arcadia with AQUA-GLASS™ fiberglass, applied by our own crews and never subcontractors. We come in from our Ventura shop, about 69 miles in a straight line, for backyard pools, spas, and the shared pools at condos and apartments.
The City of Arcadia reported an average total hardness of 210 mg/L from its wells in the Main San Gabriel and Raymond basins.

How an Arcadia pool tells you the surface is going
Arcadia water can arrive soft or very hard depending on the well, and plaster reacts to both. These are the four signs we would expect an owner here to spot first.
- A sandy, etched floorWhen the water runs on the soft side it pulls calcium out of the plaster, and the floor starts to feel like fine sandpaper.
- White scale on the tile lineWhen it runs hard, calcium comes out of the water instead and crusts the tile line and the steps.
- Blotchy, faded colorLong summers of sun and warm water leave older plaster patchy and uneven in color.
- Spots that sound hollowTap the steps with a trowel handle. A hollow sound means the plaster has let go of the shell, and that area has to be cut out and repaired first.

Which finish copes better with Arcadia well water
Pick a finish to see how it responds to soft water, hard water, and the swings between them.
AQUA-GLASS™ is gun-laminated fiberglass over a vinyl ester barrier coat, and our fiberglass pool resurfacing page explains the full method.
Arcadia, Los Angeles County, about 69 miles from our Ventura shop
Arcadia, from the foothill streets to Live Oak Avenue
Arcadia sits along the 210 Foothill Freeway between Pasadena and Monrovia. Our crews cover the whole city: the streets north of Foothill Boulevard, the blocks along Santa Anita and Baldwin avenues, and south past Huntington Drive and Santa Anita Park toward Live Oak Avenue.
Next door we also resurface pools in Pasadena and up the hill in Altadena, and farther east along the 210 in Glendora. Arcadia is one of the towns on our Los Angeles County list.
Arcadia pumps its own groundwater, and the hardness swings
The City of Arcadia does not rely on imported water at the tap. Its 2024 water quality report lists two sources: wells in the Main San Gabriel Basin and wells in the Raymond Basin.
Total hardness averaged 210 mg/L in 2024, about 12.3 grains per gallon once you divide by 17.1. That already counts as very hard water. The spread is the part pool owners should notice: results ran from 23 to 340 mg/L, roughly 1.3 to 19.9 grains per gallon, depending on the well.
Plaster suffers at both ends of that range. Soft water draws calcium out of a cement surface and etches it, and hard water drops calcium onto it as scale. Fiberglass has no cement to dissolve and no pores for scale to grip, so the swings matter less to the finish. Test the water after any refill instead of assuming it matches last season.

Arcadia summers and what they add to the water problem
The nearest NOAA station with 1991 to 2020 normals is the San Gabriel Fire Department station, a few miles southwest of Arcadia. Its numbers explain why the pool is working hardest from June through September.
Warm water holds less calcium, so hard fill water drops scale faster in late summer.
That is two months of heavy evaporation, each inch replaced with well water that adds more minerals.
Almost none of it falls in summer, so rain does little to dilute the pool when it is hottest.
If a spa or waterfall shares the plumbing, it drains with the pool and can be resurfaced in the same project. See spa resurfacing. Climate figures: NOAA NCEI 1991 to 2020 normals, San Gabriel Fire Dept station.
