How each finish holds up to Camarillo water, sun, and wind
If your Camarillo pool has a plaster finish, here is how that surface compares with AQUA-GLASS™ under the water, sun, and wind this part of the county actually sees.
| In Camarillo | Plaster | AQUA-GLASS™ fiberglass |
|---|---|---|
| What the surface is | A cement product troweled over the shell | A gun-laminated fiberglass finish bonded over the shell |
| With Camarillo fill water | Scale and calcium settle into the pores once the cement starts to etch | Scale sits on a smooth, nonporous face, so the waterline tile is the main place it builds |
| Through warm, sunny months | Warm water and chemistry swings dissolve the top layer a little at a time | Not a cement product, so balanced water does not etch it the way it etches plaster |
| After a wind event | Leaves and dust that sit on an etched floor tend to leave stains behind | Debris brushes off a smooth face more easily before it can stain |
| Underfoot over the years | Grows rougher as it etches, which is what scrapes toes on the steps | Stays smooth to the touch |
| Color choices | Mostly white and tinted plaster mixes | AQUA-GLASS™ custom colors for backyard pools; public pools follow the health agency’s approved finish rules |

What is in the water that fills your pool
The City of Camarillo Water Division drew about 62 percent of its 2024 supply from four city wells in the Fox Canyon Aquifer, two of them feeding the North Pleasant Valley Desalter. Most of the rest was imported water bought from Calleguas, and the City notes that some parts of town can only receive the imported supply.
Total hardness averaged 168.4 mg/L in the well water and 148 mg/L in the imported water. Divided by 17.1, that is roughly 9.8 and 8.7 grains per gallon. Individual well samples ran as high as 354 mg/L, about 20.7 grains.
That is enough calcium to leave a crust at the waterline and on etched plaster steps, where scale grips the rough cement. A smooth fiberglass face does not hold it the same way. If your water comes from a different provider, its own annual report will show different numbers.

Camarillo gets most of its rain from November to March
A resurface needs an empty, dry shell. NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals for the Camarillo Airport station show about 12 inches of rain a year, and almost all of it falls in winter.

What Camarillo owners ask before they book
Water, approvals, colors, and add-ons, answered for pools in Camarillo.
We also work in nearby Oxnard and Thousand Oaks, and across Ventura County.
City of Camarillo well water averaged 168 mg/L of hardness in its 2024 report, about 9.8 grains per gallon, and the wells ranged up to 354 mg/L. That calcium shows up as scale at the waterline and on rough plaster. A smooth fiberglass surface gives it less to hold onto, but the water still needs balancing.
Yes. Camarillo is about 12 miles from our shop in Ventura in a straight line, and the estimate is free with no obligation. Call (805) 672-1695 during office hours, Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM.
Pools at HOAs, condominiums, apartments, and any pool serving more than three families fall under the Ventura County Environmental Health Division. Resurfacing a public pool needs a plan check worksheet and a Permit to Construct before work starts, and the finish has to be white.
Yes. Pool resurfacing on a private Camarillo backyard pool can use the AQUA-GLASS™ custom colors, and we go over finish colors with you at the estimate. Public pools follow the health agency’s approved finish rules, so we do not offer custom colors on hotel, apartment, or HOA pools.
We can. An attached spa, waterline tile, and coping are easiest to handle while the pool is already empty, and we scope each of them at the estimate.
Warm afternoons and offshore wind in Camarillo
Camarillo sits a few miles inland from the Oxnard Plain beaches, so it gets the marine layer in the morning and more sun once it clears. NOAA’s 1991 to 2020 climate normals for the Camarillo Airport station put the August normal high at 79.5°F, with September about the same.
The NWS Los Angeles office describes Santa Ana winds as strong offshore winds that can reach hurricane strength below passes and canyons. When they blow, pools fill with leaves, dust, and grit. On rough plaster that debris tends to stain where it sits. A smooth surface lets it brush off before it sets in.

August normal high
Warm water raises chlorine demand and speeds up the chemistry swings that slowly etch a cement finish.
Santa Ana wind events
Leaves and dust land in the pool in a single afternoon, and a porous surface holds the stains they leave.
Marine layer
Strongest from late spring through early fall, it keeps mornings cool before the afternoon sun takes over.
