Pool Resurfacing in Ventura County, From Our Shop in Ventura

Ventura County is home base for Aqua Creations: our shop is on Los Angeles Avenue in Ventura, and our crews resurface backyard, hotel, apartment, and HOA pools from the coast at Ventura and Oxnard out to Simi Valley and Fillmore. This page covers the eleven towns we work in here, the water those pools are filled with, and the county rules for shared pools.

Right on the county line. The City of Westlake Village is in Los Angeles County, so a community pool there goes to LA County Public Health, while the Ventura County side is part of Thousand Oaks.

The inland valley at the east end of the county, reached on Highway 118, with summers far warmer than the coast. It is inside the Calleguas service area.

Eighteen degrees apart in August, a short drive apart on the map

At NOAA's Oxnard Ventura County Airport station, the 1991 to 2020 normal August high is 73.5°F. At the Ojai station, in a valley behind the coastal hills, it is 91.2°F. Ojai also averages about 21 inches of rain a year against about 13 at the Oxnard airport.

For a pool, the hotter side of the county means more evaporation, more top-up water, and chlorine that disappears faster on summer afternoons. Each top-up leaves its minerals behind when the water evaporates again, so inland pools tend to drift toward scale. Coastal pools run cooler and steadier but sit in ocean air all year.

Neither one is a reason to wait. They are reasons a cement surface wears differently in Simi Valley than it does in Ventura, and part of what we look at before recommending a finish.

Who fills the pool

Three water suppliers shape most Ventura County pools

Hardness is the calcium and magnesium your fill water carries. High numbers bring scale along the waterline; very soft water pulls calcium out of plaster. Here is where the county's tap water comes from.

City of Ventura

Ventura Water

The city relies on local supplies only: Ventura River water, purchased Lake Casitas water, and three groundwater basins.

Casitas Municipal Water District

Casitas treats Lake Casitas water and sells it to the City of Ventura. It bought the Ojai water system in 2017, which runs on a wellfield in town, and is planning to tie that system into the larger Casitas system.

Shared pools

How Ventura County reviews a public pool resurface

The Ventura County Environmental Health Division treats pools at condominiums, HOAs, hotels, and apartment buildings as public pools, along with any pool that serves more than three families. Its staff inspect those pools every year.

A resurface on one of them starts with an Application for Permit to Construct and the county's resurfacing worksheet, and work waits until the permit is issued. The worksheet lists fiberglass as an accepted shell finish alongside white plaster. More on how we plan these jobs is on our commercial pool resurfacing page.
