Spa Resurfacing with the AQUA-GLASS™ Fiberglass System
Spa resurfacing at Aqua Creations uses the same gun-laminated AQUA-GLASS™ fiberglass system we apply to pools, so an attached spa and its pool can come back as one matched finish. Our own in-house crews do the work on backyard spas and on the hotel, apartment, and HOA spas that see guests every day.
Pool with a raised spa
Attached spa with handrailSigns your spa surface is wearing out
A spa takes more wear per square foot than the pool beside it. The water runs hot, the jets push it hard against the walls, and people sit on the same bench and use the same step every time they get in. Those spots usually fail first.
- Benches and steps that feel rough, snag swimsuits, or scrape skin
- Stains, etching, or color that has faded unevenly
- Plaster that sounds hollow when you tap it, or has come loose
- Cracks or blisters in an older fiberglass spa
- A waterline tile band that is cracked or popping off
If your spa is already fiberglass and the damage sits in one spot, a repair may be all it needs. Our crews handle that work too, through our fiberglass pool and spa repair service, and we will tell you honestly which one your spa calls for.
What a spa resurfacing project looks like
Spa resurfacing uses the gun-laminated method Richard Dietz Sr. developed after he introduced AQUA-GLASS™ fiberglass resurfacing to Southern California in 1991, explained in full on our fiberglass pool resurfacing page.
- Free assessment. We look at the surface, benches, steps, and tile band, and tell you whether the spa needs a repair or a full resurfacing.
- Spa out of service. The spa is drained, on its own or together with its pool.
- Resurfacing. Our in-house crews resurface the spa with AQUA-GLASS™ in the color you choose.
- Refill. The spa is refilled once the work is finished.
Spa during resurfacingResurfacing a spa with its pool, or by itself
Many backyard spas share water with the pool beside them. Others stand alone, or wear out ahead of the pool. The plan changes a little depending on which one you have.
| What changes | Spa resurfaced with its pool | Spa resurfaced on its own |
|---|---|---|
| Draining | Pool and spa are drained and prepped together | Only the spa is taken out of service |
| Finish color | One AQUA-GLASS™ color across both, so the pair reads as one | A color chosen for the spa and what surrounds it |
| Tile and coping | Waterline tile and coping on both can be replaced in the same project | Spa tile and coping can be replaced at the same visit |
| Best fit | A pool and spa whose surfaces are wearing out together | Standalone spas, or a spa that failed before its pool |
What affects the cost of spa resurfacing
Spas vary too much for a flat price, so we price every one from a site visit, the same way we handle all of our pool resurfacing services. These are the factors your free estimate covers.
Size and shape
Seat count, bench layout, steps, and depth set how much surface needs resurfacing.
Condition underneath
Loose or hollow plaster has to be repaired before the spa is resurfaced. More repair means more labor.
Tile and coping
New pool tile and coping adds material and labor, and goes in most easily while the spa is already empty.
Pool and spa together
Resurfacing an attached spa with its pool shares the draining, setup, and prep across both in one project.
Spas that see guests every day
Hotel, resort, apartment, and HOA spas carry heavier use than a backyard spa, and a closed one gets noticed fast. We regularly resurface pools and spas for resorts, hotels, and universities that run several swimming areas at once.
Every AQUA-GLASS™ job is done by our own crews, never subcontractors, so the schedule stays in our hands. You can see finished pools and spas in our project gallery.
I cant stress how easy the process was. The entire team at Aqua Creations was knowledgeable, prompt, and very fast all while turning out a fantastic product. They replaced the coping, water line tile and put down their aqua glass finish in 2 spas and our pool. I would highly recommend them for any pool or spa refinish.
Spa resurfacing questions we hear most
Yes. A standalone spa, or an attached spa that has worn out ahead of its pool, can be resurfaced on its own. If the spa shares water with the pool, we will walk through what taking only the spa out of service involves at your estimate.
Spa resurfacing with AQUA-GLASS™ laminates fiberglass over the existing shell. It is the same system we have applied to pools since 1991, and it replaces rough plaster on benches and steps with a smooth fiberglass surface.
When the pool and spa are resurfaced together, both get the same AQUA-GLASS™ color in one project. Color reads differently with water depth, sun, and surroundings, so ask about color at your estimate.
Yes. Spa resurfacing for hotels, resorts, apartment communities, and HOAs is a regular part of our commercial work across Southern California and the Central Coast. Public spas also fall under federal drain safety rules, and the drains are easiest to review while the spa is empty.
Estimates are free and come with no obligation to sign. Financing is available for qualified customers through Lyon Financial.
